Hartford Art School, University of Hartford
Joe Saphire is a media artist based in Northampton, MA. He holds an MFA in studio art from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and a BFA in photography from the Hartford Art School, University of Hartford. His work has been screened and exhibited in various New England venues, as well as festivals in Dallas, TX, Asheville, NC, Kansas City, MO, and Stuttgart, Germany. Joe has developed and taught curriculum in Media Arts, emerging technologies, and integrative studio arts for the Hartford Art School Foundations program, as well as preparatory high schools such as Loomis Chaffee, Windsor, CT, and Kingswood Oxford, West Hartford, CT. Joe has also been a contributing writer on the 2017 revised Media Arts Standards for Connecticut State Department of Education, as well as exhibition materials for the University Museum of Contemporary Art, UMass, Amherst. He has worked collaboratively for over ten years to develop curatorial and event-based installations in various New England communities under the project names CATALOGUE and PlayLaborPlay. His independent studio work concerns remix, cultural production, the malleability of digital material, and the psychology of media consumption.
